TAG! I’m it and now so are YOU!

Today we’re starting off my Birthday Week with a very special post highlighting some fun facts about ~ Me! The beautiful and sweet Angela Wallace tagged me in this fun, Get-To-Know-You-Meme and since I’m a sucker for all things wacky, I just had to play.

So, what are the Rules?

  1. You must post the rules. (check)
  2.  Answer the questions and then create eleven new questions to ask the people you’ve tagged. (kind of check, I’m using the same questions)
  3. Tag eleven people and link to them. (again, kind of check. I’m opening this to everyone. It’s my birthday week, I can break the rules!)
  4. Let them know you’ve tagged them. (consider yourself tagged!)
Questions:
If you could live in a fictional world, where would that be?
Aelinae. It’s the world I’ve created in my book and every time I write a new element into it, I imagine myself there and it’s bliss.
Do you read in noisy or quiet places?
I prefer quiet places, but if the book grabs me, then I can tune out ambient noise. I can’t read at coffee shops, though. I always want to eavesdrop. It’s a terrible habit, I know, but I like to think of it as ‘character study’. 😉
What was the first book you ever read?
I honestly can’t remember. I do know that I read every Misty of Chincoteague book and all of the Nancy Drew books. One of my favorite books was, ‘Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret.
If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?
The book of love. Ha! Okay, seriously it would be The Riverside Shakespeare. It’s the most complete collection of Shakespeare’s works. I’ve learned a lot from this book and there is always more to discover.
Favorite author?
Besides Shakespeare? Proust, Edmund Spencer, John Donne, Lord Byron, Anne Rice, David Eddings, Brent Weeks, Sharon Kay Penman, Mercedes Lackey, is that enough?
Do reviews influence your choice of reads?
Sometimes yes and sometimes no. I’ve had friends recommend books to me and I just scratch my head wondering why they thought I’d like it and other times they tell me to stay away from a certain author and I end up loving them.
Fiction or Non fiction?
Fiction.
Have you ever met your favorite author?
I met Brent Weeks awhile back and he was super cool. I saw him on a panel at Comic-Con with Patrick Rothfuss and Christopher Paolini and I was instantly smitten with the three of them. They were hilarious and bounced off each other in the sweetest way.
Kindle or Paperbacks?
Paperback, but I’m heading into the digital unknown. I think I have twelve books on my kindle now…
Classic or Modern Novels?
Um, fantasy? I guess if you looked at my bookshelf you’d say Classic. I read a lot of medieval and Renaissance stuff.
Book Groups or Solitary Reading?
Solitary. Book groups would remind me too much of high school when we read stuff aloud and went around the room page by page. I was always ten pages ahead and got into trouble when it was my turn. Oops.

I guess this is where I’m supposed to tag a bunch of other bloggers to play the game, but you know what? It’s my birthday week and I’m giving all of you this gift ~ anyone who wants to play this game can!

I am super excited to see what you all come up with. If you want to change the questions, go right on ahead. This is your time to really shine!

  1. Happy Birthday, dear Tameri (again!) 🙂 This tag game is awesome because it lets us learn more about our wana sisters.

I also still like the paper books, but I’m sold on digital. It’s so convinient to download a book with a few clicks to my Kindle, and I always have a full library to read on it, wherever I go (I have dozens of titles on it already!)

    • I know and you can store a million books and not run out of bookshelf space. I think that’s the big draw for me ~ and the portability.

Thanks for sharing in my birthday week, it’s going to be so much fun!

    • I’m still fighting it, but am slowly slipping over to the dark side. It’s just too darn easy to have a ton of books with you and to flip through them. Of course, that means it’s harder to read the ending before I’m actually there. Yeah, I do that. I’m bad. 😉

      • LOL! I love the ability to carry so many books with me at once. I have found that when I am reading a real book verses one on the kindle I read through it faster. Something about seeing my progress, I don’t know.

  2. Happy Birthday! (I’m going to say that on every post of yours this week, hehe)

I’m going to pass on the eleven questions, since I’ve already done them three times, but I loved reading your answers!

I’m with you on the Kindle vs paperback. I’ve got a few more books on Kindle than you do *coughthreetimesthatamountcough*, but there’s nothing like a good old paper book. But the portability of a Kindle? Priceless . . . now I just need an actual Kindle instead of the app on my iPod touch, lol.

    • Super cool, Rebekah! (on all counts, the Kindle, the posts where you’ve answered all these questions, and on wishing me happy birthday every day this week).

I have an iPad and not a ‘true’ Kindle, but kind of the same thing. I can’t imagine reading a book on the iPod touch. Yikes, that hurts my eyes just thinking about it.

  3. Another lover of Shakespeare! (I’m such a geek that I quote Hamlet to my twins every night before bed: “Goodnight, sweet [children]. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”

    And Happy Birthday!

    • We quote Shakespeare all the time. I got to see ‘Macbeth’ in Stratford and it was magical. No one had to pretend an English accent and the lead actor was Scottish. I was in heaven and didn’t want to leave. Your kids are so freaking lucky to have a cool mom like you. 😉

      Thanks for the birthday wishes!

  4. Happy Birthday week. I love Stephen King. He is one writer who can grab me and draw me straight into his story before I can take a breath. I’ve read 20 pages before I know it. He’s awsome. I love books not ebooks because I have a habit of loosing my ebooks. I don’t loose the hard books that often. I replace them because I lend my books out and don’t except to have them come back. I hope your week is full of sunshine and happy dancing days of family and fun. Don’t eat too much cake.

    • I love his writing book, which I just found out today he has another one! But, I can’t read his horror. I have nightmares from the few movie bits I saw when I was younger ~ something about a clown, ‘It’ maybe? And a cat that sucked the life from people while they slept. STILL have nightmares.

      How do you lose ebooks?

I hope my week is full of sunshine and happy dancing days, too. Today isn’t really working out that way, is it? I think the trees are going to snap in two. Yikes.

Thanks for stopping by and the birthday wishes!

  5. Looking forward to your birthday on Thursday! Love getting to know more about you…would never have guessed about the books you love. Classics, to me, are like a cozy blanket to get wrapped up in.
It’s nice of you to tag everyone, but I’m going to satisfy myself with enjoying your answers and those of others who decide to jump in. Have a great birthday week!

    • Cool! I’ll pop on over and check them out. I’m debating which cake I want, but I think I’m going to request one from my mother-in-law ~ she makes the moistest, yummiest cakes ever.

  6. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I love birthdays…especially yours! Might you be going to Disneyland during your birthday week??? 🙂

I’ll have to look at doing the tag post but I’d never be able to decide on my favorite books and authors. NEVER!!!!

    • Disneyland isn’t in the picture for this year ~ last year we celebrated at Walt Disney World, though! Come to think of it, many of my birthdays over the past decade have been at Disneyland, but since it’s on a Thursday this year and Michael has a piano recital on Saturday, no Mickey for me. ;(

Thanks for the cool birthday wishes! I couldn’t pick a favorite author either. Even after I posted this (prematurely I might add), I kept thinking of others that should be on the list. There are just too many good authors out there!

  7. Happy Birthday!!!!!! What a wonderful way to celebrate. And, the fact that you chose the Riverside Shakespeare as your favorite book endears you to me even more. English Lit nerd!!! Absolutely love all things Shakespeare. My copy is held together by duct tape. (I did buy it used but then well. . . it got used a lot more.) 🙂

Have a fantastical birthday week sweet friend!!!!

  8. First of all, sweet girl, HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Aaaaahhh!!

    …love birthdays…

I adore Misty of Chincoteague. And Justin Morgan had a Horse. But since my mom was born on Chincoteague, that book always makes me think of her. HOPEFULLY I’ll get to go there someday. 🙂

Also, I’m a totally unrepentant eavesdropper. People are SO DARN FASCINATING!

  9. Happy birthday week, Tameri! Hope you’re enjoying it to the max. Loving the tag fun!

I adore my Kindle more than I thought I would, too. I buy more books than EVER. And, thankfully, e-books haven’t totally replaced hard copies for me. (So look out. You might grow addicted. ;))
